Future of the Energy Industry

Australia's energy and telecommunications industries have seen substantial employment growth and increased demand for skilled workers in recent years. In coming years, trades, para-professionals and professionals will continue to be in high demand by employers.

Queensland in particular is experiencing significant levels of investment in new projects, rapid population expansion, economic industry growth and renewal of ageing infrastructure across the State. Due to this growth, Queensland employers experience recruitment difficulties, fierce competition for limited available skills and an absence of quality skilled applicants to fill positions. The focus for many employers continues to be attracting and retaining relevant skills in a competitive global environment to build a competent, safe workforce for long term sustainability.

The National Broadband Network rollout and green energy technologies and processes will drive industry expansion. Growth will also come from the development of solar energy and other forms of clean energy, the coal seam gas/liquefied natural gas industry, reform, innovation and sustainability while maintaining a focus on the need for a highly skilled workforce.
