Sustainable & Renewable Energy
With increased community focus on energy efficiency, many new jobs can be found in the sustainable and renewable energy industry. Traditional electrical trades will also welcome a suite of new occupations.
Sustainable energy refers to the provision of energy to meets the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainable energy sources are most often regarded as including all renewable sources, including those mentioned above as well as bio-fuels. Generally, it also incorporates technologies that improve energy efficiency.
Renewable energy refers to energy generated from natural resources—such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides and geothermal heat—which are renewable (i.e. naturally replenished.)
There are numerous career paths on offer within the Sustainable Energy sector. Research and development capabilities for achieving more efficient means of generating and delivering electricity are the key skills required. Occupations include:

- Energy efficiency auditors
- Sustainability assessors
- 'Green' electricians
- HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) professionals
- Grid-connect accredited PV installers
- Smart meter installers
- Green plumbers (solar hot water)
