Rail Traction Line Worker

Rail Traction Line Workers install, maintain, repair and patrol electrical sub-transmission and distribution systems. Registration or licensing may be required.

Personal requirements of a Rail Traction Line Worker may include:

  • Good maths and science (including physics)
  • Problem solving
  • Logical thinking
  • Effective communications skills
  • Ability to work at heights or in confined spaces around moving machinery
  • Ability to distinguish between colours is an advantage

Rail Traction Line Worker may complete the following tasks:

  • Inspecting overhead systems
  • Installing and maintaining underground cables
  • Installing and maintaining electrical equipment
  • Isolating and switching high voltage
  • Installing revenue meters
  • Providing stores support
  • Inspecting poles
  • Controlling vegetation

This job requires a traineeship or apprenticeship to enter this field.
