Network Infrastructure Technician

Network Infrastructure Technicians work as technicians and team leaders installing and maintaining network infrastructure in transmission sector. Work entails the erection of towers, poles, structures and associated hardware including the installation and maintenance of conductors and cables. Inspection procedures for overhead structures and electrical apparatus are also included. There are four fields of network infrastructure: Transmission, Distribution, Rail Traction or Cable Jointer in the Distribution and Rail sectors of the Electricity Supply Industry.

Network Infrastructure Technicians may complete the following tasks:

  • Apply environment and sustainable energy procedures
  • Operate plant and equipment near live electrical conductors/apparatus
  • Working safely near live electrical apparatus as non electrical worker
  • Implement and monitor the organisational OHS policies, procedures and programs
  • Implement and monitor environmental and sustainable energy management policies and procedures
  • Install and maintain overhead transmission network infrastructure
  • Install and maintain transmission network infrastructure electrical equipment

This job requires an apprenticeship or traineeship in a relevant electrical trade with study at the certificate level (e.g. Certificate IV in ESI Network Infrastructure).
