Fire Alarm Technician

Fire Alarm Technicians select, assemble and set up fire protection systems in domestic and commercial premises, and perform base level servicing and maintenance of fire alarms.

Personal requirements of a Fire Alarm Technician may include:

Fire Alarm Technicians may complete the following tasks:

  • Enter and verify operating instructions in microprocessor equipped devices
  • Dismantle, assemble and fabricate electrotechnology components
  • Solve problems in extra-low voltage path circuits
  • Solve problems in multiple path d.c circuits
  • Fix and secure equipment
  • Use drawings, diagrams, schedules and manuals
  • Lay wiring and terminate accesorries for extra-low voltage circuits
  • Position and terminate fire detection and warning systems apparatus
  • Verify compliance and functionality of fire protection installations
  • Maintain documentation
  • Source and purchase material/parts for installation or service jobs
  • Receive and store materials and equipment for electrotechnology work
  • Deliver a service to customers
  • Provide basic instruction in the use of electrotechnology apparatus
  • Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices
  • Carry out routine work activities in an Electrotechnology environment

This career requires an apprenticeship or certificate qualification in Fire Alarms Servicing.
