Explosion Equipment Electrician

Explosion Equipment Electricians overhaul and repair general and explosion-protected electrical machines, switchgear and controlgear.

Personal requirements of an Explosion Equipment Electrician may include:

Explosion Equipment Electricians may complete the following tasks:

  • Participate in explosion-protected equipment overhaul work and competency development activities
  • Apply OHS practices in the workplace
  • Dismantle, assemble and fabricate electrotechnology components
  • Solve problems in extra-low voltage single path circuits
  • Solve problems in multiple path d.c. circuits
  • Fix and secure equipment
  • Use drawings, diagrams, schedules and manuals
  • Document occupational hazards and risks in electrical
  • Solve problems in electromagnetic circuits
  • Solve problems in single and three phase low voltage circuits
  • Overhaul and repair switchgear / controlgear
  • Wind coils
  • Place and connect coils
  • Rewind single phase induction machines
  • Rewind three phase induction machines rated for low voltage
  • Conduct electrical tests on low voltage electrical machines
  • Repair mechanical components of electrical machines
  • Report on the integrity of explosion-protected equipment in a hazardous areas

This job requires the completion of a traineeship or apprenticeship in Electrotechnology. Further part-time specialist study usually at Certificate III level is also required (e.g. Cert III in Explosion-protected equipment overhaul).
