Essential Service Remote Area Operators select, assemble, set up and maintain simple equipment and systems.

Personal requirements of an Essential Service Remote Area Operator may include:

Essential Service Remote Area Operators may complete the following tasks:

  • Dismantle, assemble and fabricate electrotechnology components
  • Maintain documentation
  • Source and purchase material/parts for installation or service jobs
  • Receive and store materials and equipment for electrotechnology work
  • Deliver a service to customers
  • Use basic computer applications relevant to a workplace
  • Provide basic instruction in the use of electrotechnology apparatus
  • Maintain and monitor remote area essential service operations
  • Maintain and repair remote area power generation facilities
  • Conduct checks in the demand side use of remote area power supplies
  • Conduct periodic maintenance of remote area power supply (RAPS) generator sets
  • Maintain tanks and water storage assets

Entry requirements may vary but most employers require Year 10 and some may prefer Year 12. Experience required includes an electrical apprenticeship or traineeship at certificate level (e.g. Certificate II in Remote Area Essential Service).
