Inspections and Audits - Installation Technicians may undertake mandatory and contractual inspections of electrical systems and auditing of entities for compliance with electrical safety requirements.

Inspections and Audits - Installation Technicians may complete the following tasks:

  • Apply OHS practices in the workplace
  • Dismantle, assemble and fabricate electrotechnology components
  • Solve problems in extra-low voltage single path circuits
  • Solve problems in multiple path d.c. circuits
  • Fix and secure equipment
  • Use drawings, diagrams, schedules and manuals
  • Lay wiring and terminate accessories for extra-low voltage circuits
  • Implement and monitor OHS policies and procedures
  • Compile and produce an electrotechnology report
  • Document occupational hazards and risks in electrical
  • Participate in development and follow a personal competency development plan
  • Solve problems in electromagnetic circuits
  • Solve problems in single and three phase low voltage circuits
  • Install wiring and accessories for low voltage circuits
  • Install low voltage electrical apparatus and associated equipment
  • Verify compliance and functionality of general electrical installations
  • Select and arrange equipment for general electrical installations
  • Find and repair faults in electrical apparatus and circuits
  • Develop and connect control circuits
  • Use engineering applications software
  • Install and administer Unix based computers
  • Install and configure internetworking systems
  • Perform cable tests

Entry requirements may vary but most employers require Year 10 and some may prefer Year 12. Experience required includes an electrical apprenticeship or traineeship and certificate (e.g. Certificate IV in Electrical Installation Inspection and Audits).
