Data and Voice Communications Tradesperson

Data and Voice Communications Tradespersons install, set up, test, fault find, repair and maintain telecommunications and high performance data services in buildings and premises.

Personal requirements of a Data and Voice Communications Tradesperson may include:

Data and Voice Communications Tradespersons may complete the following tasks:

  • Dismantle, assemble and fabricate electrotechnology components
  • Solve problems in extra-low voltage single path circuits
  • Solve problems in multiple path d.c. circuits
  • Fix and secure equipment
  • Use drawings, diagrams, schedules and manuals
  • Lay wiring and terminate accessories for extra-low voltage circuits
  • Lay and connect cables for multiple access to telecommunication services
  • Install and modify performance data communication structured cabling
  • Install and modify performance data communication optical fibre cabling
  • Install and connect voice and data communications equipment
  • Select and arrange equipment for local area networks
  • Test, report and rectify faults in voice and data installations
  • Troubleshoot frequency dependent circuits
  • Source and purchase material/parts for installation or service jobs
  • Provide quotations for installation or service jobs
  • Deliver a service to customers
  • Use basic computer applications relevant to a workplace
  • Comply with scheduled and preventative maintenance program processes
  • Provide basic instruction in the use of electrotechnology apparatus
  • Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices

This job usually requires a minimum Data and Voice Communications or similar qualification to be considered for the position.
