Senior Telecommunications Engineer (Networks)

Senior Telecommunications Engineers (Networks) are responsible for building, deploying, supporting and troubleshooting networked appliances in complex telecommunications environments.

Personal requirements of a Senior Telecommunications Engineer may include:

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Strong administration skills
  • Knowledge of current and emerging telecommunications technologies
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to rapidly identify root causes
  • Sound IP Networking skills, including infrastructure such as Routers and Switches

Senior Telecommunications Engineers may complete the following tasks:

  • Develop a solution design in order to utilise current infrastructure efficiently whilst satisfying business needs and function
  • Produce documentation which outlines cost estimation and design patterns for the proposed solution
  • Identify and account for technical risks and issues associated with the proposed solution and existing infrastructure
  • Adhere to organisation standards, processes and procedures
  • Engage with key stakeholders, such as Project Managers to ensure the designed infrastructure is delivered consistently across facilities
  • Ensure infrastructure design allows for industry trends and supports modern technology and respective enhancements
  • Provide technical expertise in relation to LAN, WAN, WLAN and Telecommunications

This occupation has a level of skill commensurate with a Degree or Advanced Diploma, and relevant experience is most unlikely to substitute for these formal qualifications. In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification. Extensive experience as a Senior Network Designer/Engineer is highly recommended.
